It seems like every day there is another headline, email or online message shouting “URGENT! CHANGES TO THE LAW!!!” and inviting me to “click here” to discover this new information. The most recent trend seems to center on tax legislation.
Let’s be clear … to date, there has been NO TAX REPEAL passed. Everyone who went to 3rd grade knows that it takes time for proposed legislation to become law (if you’re not sure – or even if you are - WATCH THIS VIDEO.
The majority of the “Screaming Emails” are really just marketing – the marketing world today revolves around “clicks” and “hits” and “likes” and “shares” and “tweets” and probably a hundred more with which I remain unfamiliar. What I have learned as a business owner, is that this is the marketing of the future. These are the standards by which marketing is measured, and everyone is part of the target audience. What is of concern to me is the increasing aggressiveness of these campaigns.
I get these HURRY AND PANIC FOR NO REASON emails all the time, and it concerns me that such things are “out there” confusing the public. There is enough scary stuff in the world without professionals inciting panic over things that haven’t happened but “might” happen. For instance, making assumptions about what Congress will or will not do with regard to taxes is a very slippery slope. My preference is to let my clients know WHEN a law passes that will have an impact on them.
Message to our clients: New laws do not take effect without warning. We will know about them before the effective date – and we will protect you if protection is necessary. You need not surf the internet chasing the URGENT messages – you need only place your trust in Hunter Estate & Elder Law – I promise we will never send panic advertising to you and we will never pull the trigger based on assumptions. Rest assured: we have your back.
