Jessie Hillock M.A. CCC-SLP, CDP is the owner and founder of The Memory Compass. The Memory Compass is a private practice. The company services empower families on their journey living with mild cognitive impairment, memory loss, dementia or Alzheimer’s through individualized dementia family coaching and consulting, therapy, and cognitive wellness.
Jessie is a speech-language pathologist. Her focus is in cognitive-communication disorders of the geriatric population. Prior to starting her practice, she worked for six-and-a-half years in skilled nursing facilities providing therapy, education and support to individuals residing in assisted living, memory care, long-term care, and patients requiring a rehab stay following a hospitalization. Jessie felt driven to start her practice out of the growing frustration expressed by countless families of how little support they felt they received following a diagnosis of a memory impairment. The Memory Compass is currently the only private practice in the state of Indiana specific to serving individuals and their care partners facing a dementia or Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
The Memory Compass been in business since April 2019. Initially the team provided family coaching and consulting services before becoming credentialed as a Medicare provider. The Memory Compass has been serving Medicare beneficiaries since January 2020, through in-home outpatient therapy services. Occupational therapy services were added in April 2020.
The Memory Compass is a mobile private therapy practice serving Zionsville, Carmel, Westfield, Fishers, Noblesville, and Indianapolis, Ind. This means outpatient therapy services are provided in the home. Jessica and her team believe that therapy services are most effective when provided in the functional home setting to provide a truly individualized therapy experience with unique strategies and support.
Individuals with a memory impairment experience a cognitive-communication decline that impacts their instrumental activities of daily living (i.e. - shopping, cooking, managing medications, managing finances, using the telephone) and activities of daily living (i.e. - bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, ambulation). The team at Memory Compass performs an assessment to determine current level of function within these skill areas before developing individualized strategies to enhance memory function, maximize communication, and promote safety within a living environment.
A diagnosis of a memory impairment impacts the entire family. That is why The Memory Compass not only offers individualized therapy sessions but also dementia family coaching and consulting services to serve the family. Dementia family coaching and consulting services support care partners of an individual with a diagnosis.
Jessie's team counsels and coaches families through disease progression, individualized recommendations and tools to help avoid crisis situations, as well as appropriate communication and redirection approaches. Dementia family coaching and consulting services are provided not only virtually across the state of Indiana, but also throughout the U.S. too!
